I thought I might introduce you to the characters of Fallout and make them a little bit more personal to you.
So today's introduction is Tully Chambers.
If you haven't read the official blurb yet, you can do so by going to my last blog entry, and if you've already read it---
Then you'll realise Tully Chambers isn't exactly a shrinking violet... And maybe her first impression of Jake Holden kinda got off on the wrong foot-- but it has to get better right?...
Sneak Excerpt
“Whoa there.”
A large palm caught her fist before it contacted with the chest of the man who’d opened the door.
“Well, if it isn’t Stone Cold Steve Austin,” he drawled. “Wrestled any other unsuspecting neighbours lately?”
Tully froze. The hand that still encased hers felt warm and large. His other arm hung by his side, holding a can of beer. If he’d been surprised at almost colliding with a woman’s fist as he opened the door, he didn’t appear particularly fazed. She took a step backward, tugging her hand free in the process.
“I’m not sure if you realize, but that wall,” she said as she pointed past his shoulder into his living room, “divides my place from yours.”
His only reaction was to raise an eyebrow as if to say “and?”
Clenching her teeth, she continued with forced politeness, “I finished work at eleven tonight and I have to be back up at six. It’s now two forty seven…Do you think you can turn the music off and call it a night?”
He seemed to consider her request. “Would you like to come in for a drink?”
Her eyes narrowed dangerously “No, I would not like to come in for a drink. Just turn the damn music down.”
“You don’t like Cold Chisel?” He took a gulp of his beer and his eyes crinkled. He seemed to take pleasure in aggravating her.
Stay calm. She unclenched her fists by her sides and took a deep breath. “Listen, if we’re going to be neighbours it’s going to work out a lot better if we can both get on. So you close down this party and I won’t have to get nasty. Then everyone will be happy.”
“I might like nasty girls. Maybe I’ll just take my chances.”
The song ended and the sound of male voices arguing over what song they should play next, carried out into the doorway.
With a tired sigh, she realised she wasn’t going to get anywhere with this guy tonight by being reasonable. “Okay, we’ll do it your way,” she said in mock capitulation.
His amused chuckle followed her retreat into the shadows.
Yeah, laugh it up, pal, she thought as she headed for her target........
hmmm... okay so maybe second impressions are also a bit shaky.....
But eventually these two do find some common ground-- of sorts, but you'll have to read the story to find out how :)
Tully Chambers is a woman who has learnt the hard way to depend on herself-- to avoid disappointment.
Raised by a church going- God fearing aunt who, in all fairness had never planned on being lumped with a rebellious teenager-- she learnt fast-- that life wasn't always fair.
She's watched for years as her mother drifted from one abusive relationship to another and vowed she would never allow another person close enough to hurt her the way they hurt her mother. Until one day, one of them killed her mother-- it had only been a matter of time before it happened, but by then Tully had no illusions left about happily ever after's and fairy tales.
A chance meeting with a Detective on her mothers case was the only good thing to come from the whole sordid affair, and the small kindness the man had shown Tully made a lasting impression... one that would stay with her and shape her life, although she wouldn't fully appreciate in what way, until much later in life.
She may be considered a workaholic-- a hard edged professional, but she prides herself on her professionalism and dedication to the job.
Then life steps in and deals her an unexpected blow. Her partner is murdered in cold blood and Tully makes a decision that will effectively end all life as she once knew it.
To say meeting a man was the last thing on her mind, would be a gross understatement. As if her life wasn't already in enough upheaval, a troublesome next door neighbour, with a sexy grin and time on his hands, was pretty much the last thing she needed right now...but that's what she got...and that's just the start of her problems ....
