take a second look
After talking to friends who were in the area visiting and were raving over the Valley, I realised how much I tended to take the beauty of where I live for granted.
Is it just me or does everyone do it?
I remember living in Hervey Bay one of the biggest places in Australia to launch off and see whales- it was right there on my doorstep- and I didn't once go out and see them.
I lived on the Great Barrier Reef and never learnt to scuba dive- nope not even one attempt.
I lived at Mt Isa and ...oh hang on I did go and see the Mt Isa Rodeo- glad I've done something!
My pledge today is to make sure I don't let any more prime opportunities go to waste...it's good to do the tourist thing in your own town now and again- gives you a new perspective on the things you see everyday through the eyes of a stranger.

There's lots I haven't seen in Coffs - it's taken me almost 10 years to drive up the mountain to Lowanna. But I have stayed in a couple of the resorts. People tell me I'm so lucky, I live in paradise, and I love living out in the country -- but when you spend the best time of the day chained to a desk in an air-con building that is freezing, while the sun is shining and the waves are dancing, it's hard to remember that you're living in paradise.
ReplyDeleteLOL, if only we didn't hae to eat or pay bills!
ReplyDeleteThis is a great blog Karly, a good reminder not to take your slice of heaven for granted.
ReplyDeleteI've done a couple of posts on why I love living where I do - being a bit of a photographer my walls at home are filled with shots of local scenery (some you can find on website if you want to see my patch of paradise www.kyliegriffin.com).
We do have a great country to live in - so diverse! And what a great excuse to celebrate this on Australia Day, coming up on the 26th Jan. I'm going to have a BBQ and enjoy the view from my back entertainment area of the gully and bush where my backyard ends! :-)
