Celebs Doesn't Always = Role Model
Hello everyone,
First I'd like to thank Karlene for having me. I will try not to burn the house down *crosses fingers behind back and grins* But seriously, I am happy to be here. Congrats Karly on "FALLOUT" I haven't picked it up yet but I will once my drama calms down (you know what I mean).
Anywho, My name is Kadian Tracey, a few of you may also know me by my Pen Name Kendra Mei Chailyn. Today, I am here as myself--erm--the real me lol. I am a Romance Author (mostly interracial). I am published with Devine Destinies, Red Rose Publishing, Dark Castle Lords LLC and Phaze. I have three print titles and a whole slew of ebooks. You can find my trailers on youtube under the Arigato Designs channel.
Ok, so my topic for today. I'm not going to blog about the Olympics, even though I am Canadian I have something WAY more important.
So I may not ever get a comment on this and that's cool. As long as you learn something that is all that matters. I was listening to the radio the other day and the announcer said "coming up next, the new one from Melanie Fiona - It kills me!" I was like, yay! Why? Because during the summer she had a hit song called 'Give it to me right" this song was about a woman who knew what she wanted and when she wanted. It was about a strong woman and I was dancing around my living-room going, "you go girl!"
Then I heard her new song and sat there, stunned, flabbergasted and blinking blankly at the radio thinking "what in the hell?" Her new song is about a woman who's in a relationship with this man. The man treats her like dirt, he doesn't come home at nights, she KNOWS he cheating, she says so herself. She knows the relationship isn't heading anywhere (she says that too) yet still she doesn't want to leave this creep. Why? Not because she's afraid he'd find her and hurt her, not because she has no where to go but because she 'loves him' and she 'wants to have his babies' and 'she doesn't want to be alone'. WHAT?
Now, I'm twenty six, I don't have any kids but even I know that is not cool. I am trying to teach my niece how to be a real woman. I do not want her to ever grow up thinking she should stay with a man for the dumb reasons this woman gave. And babies? She is willing to bring babies into that mess? Seriously, ladies, we can do better. We really can. We were made with curves and bodies to lift her head, swing her hips and let him eat our dust if he doesn't treat us how we deserve to be. Please, do not settle because you're afraid to be alone. Please teach your children, your young women that if the situation isn't healthy to leave it. If they can't they should be able to ask you for help. Ladies, we get these gut feelings, you know the one that tells you when your kids are up to something? The eyes in the back of your head kind of feelings? Use them!
So I say all that to say this--do not harp on the statement that "celebs have to be role models" the truth is they don't have to. As long as they're making millions, most of them don't care. YOU are the parent(s), YOU make the decision who and what your kids listen to, especially when they are at that age when self-esteem is built etc. YOU be your kids' role-model.
